10th Legion II - Newcastle Team Update

I am just catching up with updates from our last few fights! More to come in the next few days. But first an update from Alex Wright - Newcastle Branch on his guys at 10th Legion II. I must say I am very proud of all our guys!

Danny and Tristan, Cyclone Fighters

Firstly well done to both Danny and Tristan who both fought really well against good skilled opponents.

Danny out struck and out clinched his guy repeatedly backing him up against the cage and eventually forcing him to pull guard in an MMA fight which is generally seen as a no no unless you are a real Jiu Jitsu expert. After pretty much dominating the first round Danny got caught in a triangle and although he battled his way out expended far too much energy doing so. The second round started the same way with Danny out clinching his man and taking him to the cage however the Caged Steel fighter had seen his method to get to the floor in the first round and again pulled guard taking the fight to where he was obviously more skilled. Danny was gased and didn’t defend as well as he did in the first eventually succombing to a keylock from the mount.

No what ifs or what could have been, he fought a good opponent who had obviously been doing Jiu Jitsu for sometime and had already fought 3 times.

Tristan totally dominated his fight both standing up, in the clinch and on the ground winning round one convincingly after fighting out a couple of early guillotine attempts. We’d worked hard on keeping the fight in Tristans range and early on he did this very well. His Chinese Boxing kick catches were awesome running his much taller opponent to the ground on several occasions.

To say the result in the second round was unlucky is maybe not completely true as Tristan made one error and got caught with a very well timed head kick but few of you will realise he actually choked the guy unconcious in round2 via a guillotine and managed to wake the lad up by bashing him accidentally!! I was screaming the corner down to the referee that the guy was out but by the time he stood them up it was too late. Tristan showed how good he actually is last night and with a little experience I think he’s going to do really well in MMA, allot of the guys from my old team were really impressed with our fighters ability which shows we are doing something right. believe me they’d tell me if we weren’t.

Tristans opponent Luke Dalton looked like the makings of a good fighter with a good team in Manvers Fight Factory behind him, his Muay Thai looked sharp and found his range in the second round. Disappointing for our team especially as both guys put in excellent performances however thats MMA and results can turn on a knife edge. We could have had ten fights with those performances and won them all!
