Iron Wolves fight again
Other Team member Brad had his first fight at this event last time out and had a very good draw where he showed his new gained skills.
This time it was Pauls time and he did an excellent job! One win and one draw. Paul's stand up skills really showed his structure power.
Paul has been training hard and the Team effort for this event showed.
We are very proud to have new Team members Paul, Brad and Dimitry, they are nice guys with no egos and have a very good Team spirit.
The hard work paid off! Well done!!!

Leigh Carr from Devon made it to the training. Leigh has started teaching now and will do very well.
Another branch school instructor Shaun Scales from Rotherham also attended. Shaun is now the Director of our CAAS MMA Kids Programme for the UK. Shaun plays an important role within our group.
The guys where all excellent! They worked hard and have all continued to grow.
Its nice to see that we have a good core group of instructors within the assocation. The branch schools are showing good standards!

The Human Mind
I just been reading the book 'The Human Mind' by Robert Winston. I recommend his work. You start to take note of the patterns and directions of your mind when you read its map.
We know our brain has a lot to do with the way we find our way through life. But do we really know our brain. For all we know about the mind and brain their is much we do not.
A few things that I read in the book that you may be interested in -
The great philosopher Plato thought the head was the house of the intellect and the soul.
Aristotle also one of the great philosophers disagreed with his teacher Plato. He like a few others thought it was the heart the home of the soul.
The father of medical practice Hippocrates named the brain as the centre of the emoitions hunderds of years after.
It was not until physicians started to dissect bodies that the connection to the brain was made clear.
So even Aristotle could be wrong. He made a idea based on the information he had. That is fine. I am sure with more information he would be happy to change his mind. That is why he was one of the great philosophers. You can't always be right, but you can always change!
I was talking to Steve Morris the other day and he said to me 'Change your mind more often'.
Now that is something to put in your mind!

Mark Wıley Summer Camp feedback
Feedback from Guro Mark on our summer camp -
Alan, we had another great summer camp together! A really dedicated group of tough guys throwing fists and swinging sticks!! My kind of long weekend. On day one we shared the same teaching space, and I could hear you teaching the guys very essential details of body structure and energy movement in the first form. They are lucky to have you as a resource for this. My groups were great, too. We went over the details and mechanics of footwork, striking, ranges, single stick, knife, sword and dagger, disarms. Everyone was amazed and spot on with their training and enthusiasm. I can't wait until the next camp. And next time you and I have to spend more time together to train each other! ...and watch more films! Through thick and thin we are brothers. We need to plan a Philly camp!

I am very proud of the group we are buildıng!

Summer Camp 2008
This years Summer Camp was a great success. 3 Days of mayhem.
We where lucky this year to also have Guro Mark Wiley and Pete Irving teaching at the camp.
I covered Wing Chun first and second form details. Also Sparring and clinch control drills.
Rounds of sparring and kettlebells where also added for the conditioning phase! Nice.
Guro Wiley taught single Stick and knife applications on day one and sword and dagger on day two.
Pete drilled Guard passes, head and arm finishes and single leg takedown defences.
I was very happy with the level of positive work rate from the group and the team spirit our school is know for.
All in all an excellent camp!
Aaron telling Pete that a takedown from this position is just not going to happen.
Well, not for a few seconds anyway.

Private Training with Steve Morris
Steve Morris and the Guys - Rob, Nick, Duane and Miz
After a great day with the legendary Steve Morris.
When you have been in the martial arts for a long time you will often hear stories of different people about the skills they have. Steve Morris is a name that is linked to many stories of super human training and endless depths of skill. Often people will say hes good but.... now the 'but' is always a way out of explaining why they have never checked out that person for themselves.
Check him out!! I met Steve this year at Seni and was very impressed.
So I asked him to come down and teach a small workshop for a few of my guys and me to start with.
It was excellent to see that we have a lot in common, as we both have come to the same understanding of the martial arts. Its all about understanding body structures and timing. Training with Steve is like having access to a great library of knowledge. He really holds many of the keys to developing a deeper more functional understanding to the martial arts.
I feel training with Steve can only add to your path. The details he taught opened new doors of development for me, which have short cut my path. That is the sign of a great teacher. I always tell my students the goal and role of a teacher is to get you to where they are, but much quicker.
The Morris Method is more than Steve's way, it is a clear understanding of the use of the body. But on another level it is the mind set to application and training.
Steve will now been working with my group on a regular basis. I think you should as well!

Also I will be adding some pages to my site on Steve in the coming weeks.

Ben is a rock as always! Great to see him.
Good to catch up with my good friend Pete Irving as well.
We covered the structure of striking and structural boxing methods. Reviewed some important basics and new progressions.
It was a good day!
Well done to the Newcastle Branch! They are bringing great honuor to our school name.

Real fighting?
A lot of guys say they train for the street defence. So that is why they can be so unfit! They will say that MMA is only a sport and not real. Sure on the street you have martial tools not allowed in the ring. But most of these guys train in a way that nobody fights in!
Just have someone throw some hard punches and kicks at you.
Looks real to me!
If they cultivate the arts wrongly, they get conceited about their knowledge, looking down on others around them. Spouting high-flown but untrue theories, they mislead the youth and spoil their dispostitions.
